Sunshine Sunshine in week 2!

This week we had many wonderful activities arranged for the kids. On Monday we went to Kitsilano Beach to play in the playground and lounge along the beach. Some of the kids dug a hole so deep they could almost see China! The sunny, hot weather was perfect for our fun day at the beach. Tuesday we went to see a movie at Scotiabank Theater. We watched "The Amazing Spiderman". The campers enjoyed the new actors on screen and were even discussing the movie a couple days later (I guess it must have been good!). We treated the kids to popcorn and a small cup of pop...mmmm. Wednesday we went to Grouse Mountain for the Variety Club's annual event for kids. We were able to watch a logging show, go up the chair lift to see the beautiful view of Vancouver. Variety even provided us with a delicious lunch. We also bumped into Trout Lake Community Centre and their campers. Everyone confidently stood up and introduced themselves to the other camp- We will be participating in activities with TLC throughout the summer so these campers will be interacting often :). We were all very tired after a long, full day in the sun at Grouse. Thursday we went to Killarney pool again. The kids enjoyed splashing around and playing pass with the floating balls. They also loved wading and floating around on noodles and floaties. Friday we went to Stanley Park. We all went on the mini train and watched a native story about the Sasquatch. We also made Native drums with real deer hyde and feathers!

So it begins...Week 1 !

Many of the campers have returned from last summer. It has been wonderful to watch the youth grow older and become more mature from the year before. The campers reunited with a fun game of cosmic bowling at "The Zone" in Richmond. We also got to play in the arcade and pretend to drive race cars together! On Wednesday we went to the new Aquarium and saw the new beautiful set up. The kids particularly enjoyed the 4D show with bubbles, wind, splashing water and snow being propelled into the theatre- it was very realistic! They also were able to watch the beluga show, peruse around the exhibits and most excitingly, they were able to visit the new South African Penguins! On Thursday we went to the Downtown Public Library. We stayed in the kids section, colouring, reading and some of the youth even took out books! How studios! On Friday we wandered down to Killarney pool. The kids particularly enjoyed the massive water slide and the diving board.

SUMMER is here again. Get ready 2012 adventurers!

Welcome Back Campers! Our leaders Chris Leong and Julia Leo are back again for another summer of adventure. It is Chris' 4th year and Julia's 3rd year working with Discovery. Chris is going into his third year at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto. Julia has just returned home from a volunteering and backpacking trip around Nepal and India. She is going to be studying her Masters in Occupational Therapy at Queens University in the fall. Our leaders keep returning because they love working with the kids and also enjoy being mentors for the youth... and I guess the awesome, busy summer schedule is also a plus!
Discovery camp is filled with action, adventure and opportunity. Here they can meet new friends, foster lasting relationships, and create remarkable memories. Campers will enjoy the balmy beaches of Vancouver to the cool peaks of Grouse Mountain. With each week filled with activities and out trips there should never be a dull moment at our summer camp!
